KTM 990 RC R Unveiled Globally, Powered By a 947cc Parallel-Twin Engine As The 990 Duke
KTM has launched the 990 RC R, marking its return to the large-capacity supersport segment after many years. The motorcycle is priced at USD 13,949 (approximately ₹12.38 lakh) in the United States. Production delays pushed its debut of the 2025 model to the 2026 model year.
Engine
The 990 RC R is powered by a 947 cc parallel-twin engine producing 128 bhp and 103 Nm of torque. The motorcycle bases on the 990 Duke platform with retuned mapping and exhaust for improved throttle response. These upgrades also enhance top-end performance, suiting it for spirited riding.
Suspension
KTM retains its steel trellis frame paired with an aluminium swingarm for balanced agility and strength. The motorcycle features fully adjustable WP Apex suspension at both ends for enhanced handling. In terms of braking, there are twin 320mm front discs and a 240mm rear disc.
Features
A six-axis IMU supports advanced safety systems like traction control, wheelie control, and launch control. Riders can choose from four modes — Rain, Street, Sport, and Performance. Users can unlock additional race-focused settings with an optional Track pack.
The 8.8-inch TFT display offers smartphone connectivity and detailed race telemetry for data enthusiasts. Aerodynamic fairings with integrated winglets improve high-speed stability and downforce. A tall tail section and adjustable footpegs complete the track-ready ergonomics.
Launch Date
KTM confirmed its renewed focus on performance-oriented motorcycles by beginning production in October 2025. The 990 RC R serves as a spiritual successor to the KTM 1190 RC8. However, unlike the RC 8C, this supersport is fully road-legal.
KTM is unlikely to launch the 990 RC R in India due to its limited market potential. Riders can consider the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R for similar performance instead. The 990 RC R blends true supersport excitement with daily usability.
