Mahindra offers buyback after second batch impacts Batman Edition exclusivity
Mahindra has announced a buyback option for select customers of the BE 6 Batman Edition following concerns raised over the release of an additional batch of the limited-run model. The move comes after some early buyers expressed dissatisfaction when a second set of units was introduced within months of the original launch.
The BE 6 Batman Edition was first launched in August 2025 as a limited offering, with 999 units allocated nationwide. The entire batch was sold out shortly after bookings opened, positioning it as an exclusive variant. However, the introduction of a second batch on March 6, 2026 – also limited to 999 units, led to criticism from some owners who felt the exclusivity of their purchase had been diluted.
In response, Mahindra is now offering to buy back vehicles from customers of the first batch who are not satisfied with their purchase under the changed circumstances. The offer is time-bound and will remain valid for 30 days starting March 18, 2026. Interested customers are required to contact their respective dealerships to initiate the process and understand the applicable terms.
The second batch of the Batman Edition was also met with strong demand, with all units reportedly booked within minutes despite a price increase of Rs. 70,000 over the earlier batch.
The Batman Edition itself is primarily a cosmetic upgrade based on the BE 6’s Pack Three variant. It features exclusive design elements such as themed decals, badges and styling changes inspired by the Batman branding, while retaining the core mechanical setup.
Under the skin, it continues with a 79kWh battery pack paired with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 286 HP and 380 Nm of torque. The model has a claimed range of 682 km (ARAI). Charging options include 7.2kW and 11kW AC chargers, which are offered at an additional cost over the vehicle’s ex-showroom price.
While the buyback offer addresses concerns from early adopters, it also highlights the challenges automakers face in balancing exclusivity and demand when introducing limited-edition models.
