Mahindra Launches Maxximo Electric Project To Ferry Tourists

The Maxximo Electric pilot project is the first project under the government’s NEMMP 2020 and will use the Maxximo electric vans to ferry tourists in the Taj Zero emission corridor.

4 Mahindra Maxximo EVs were handed over for the pilot project

Under the government’s ambitious National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP), Mahindra announced the launch of the country’s first electric vehicle pilot project as it handed over four Maxximo electric vans to the Agra Development Authority that will be used to ferry tourists in the green Taj Zero Emission Corridor in a bid to reduce vehicular emissions. The Maxximo EV will be ferrying tourists from Shilpgram to the East Gate of the Taj Mahal initially as part of the pilot project.

The Maxximo Electric Van is an 8-seater zero-emission mini-van that gets an electric motor producing 20 HP and 62 Nm of torque and draws power from lithium-ion batteries. The electric van is capable of covering a distance of 100 kilometers on a single charge and can achieve an electronically limited top-speed of 65 km/hr. A full charge takes 8 hours on the EV. Showcased last year at the Auto Expo, the Maxximo EV also comes with a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) system. Mahindra says that the EV is suitable for all weather conditions and is built on high standard of safety as well as reliability and is expected to be production ready by FY2016.

The government has envisioned the concept of building 100 smart cities with better facilities, connectivity and most importantly a better environment. The pilot project is the first of many such projects that will be built in a bid to offer smart transportation and mobility solutions for public and private transportation. Mahindra owned REVA has been extensively working on a new breed of EVs and has already showcased an electrical powered Verito targeted at private and cab buyers, while there is also the Gio EV showcased in the past for commercial operations.
