Mahindra Thar 5Door features revealed, only range topping trims to get 4×4

Mahindra is gearing up to introduce the much anticipated Thar 5Door variant on 15th August 2024. While excitement brews among enthusiasts, details shared by insiders shed light on what could be in store for consumers.

The exterior of the Thar 5Door is said to sport a distinctive look, boasting a revamped front fascia characterised by wider slats on the grille and sleek LED headlamps and tail lights. Notably, the rear door handle placement on the C-pillar adds a touch of exclusivity to its design, while the SUV is expected to roll on 19-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, the Thar 5Door aims to blend functionality with comfort. It will get dual-tone dashboard and plush whitish upholstery, hinting at a more premium interior ambiance. Targeted towards families, the seats are rumoured to offer enhanced comfort.

The Thar 5Door is speculated to offer a range of options to cater to diverse preferences. It is rumoured to be available in 3-4 variants, with certain premium features like sunroof and 4×4 capability reserved for the range topping variants. Additionally, features such as electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, automatic climate control with rear AC vents and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen paired with a 9-speaker Harman-Kardon audio system are likely to be offered.

Speculations suggest the inclusion of advanced safety features such as 6 airbags and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) along with ABS, ESP, traction control, Hill Hold, Hill Descent Control, etc.

The new Thar 5Door will cannibalise with the Mahindra XUV700 and the Scorpio-N. However, all three SUVs have a different target audience. You can also expect the Indian UV maker to rename the more premium Thar to differentiate the two products clearly.

In terms of engine options, Mahindra will continue to offer 2.2-litre diesel along with the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine on the bigger Thar. It will be available with both 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options for both the engines. We can expect slightly different state of tune for the bigger Thar to compensate the additional weight.
