Maruti Dzire CNG Spotted, Market Launch This Year?

Visually, the car does not look any different to the petrol model

The Maruti Dzire CNG spotted testing out on public roads should be launched soon

Maruti has been spotted on-road testing the CNG variant of its Dzire compact sedan which is likely to be launched in the coming months.

The carmaker has disclosed that it plans to produce and sell around 2.5 lakh CNG-powered vehicles in India this fiscal year, having sold 1.57 lakh such cars in the previous fiscal.

Sporting an emissions test device, the Maruti Dzire CNG spotted on test looks like the petrol model on the exterior. It should come with a CNG reservoir in its boot, which will rob some of its 378-litre boot space.

CNG models are gaining traction due to soaring petrol and diesel prices

Like other Maruti CNG cars, the Dzire CNG should be equipped with a micro switch to ensure that the vehicle is not running when CNG is fed to the tank, a change-over switch to change the fuel that powers the car (with an auto mode) and dual interdependent ECUs.

It is likely that the Swift, on which the Dzire is based, might also get a CNG variant and, it should, along with the Dzire, feature retuned suspension as well.

The CNG reservoir will take up some boot space

At present, Maruti’s CNG-powered passenger vehicle range includes models such as the Alto, Celerio, Eeco, Ertiga, Wagon R and S-Presso.
