Maruti Plans Celerio Diesel Launch In April, S-Cross In May

Maruti Suzuki will be launching a total 9 products this year with 3 all-new models including the S-Cross, Super Carry LCV as well as YRA premium hatch and 6 product refreshes.

The Celerio diesel will employ the country’s small 800cc diesel engine under the hood

Maruti Suzuki is looking forward to an exciting 2015 with as many as nine products planned for launch in the year. The Indian auto giant has been working on three all-new products that will debut later this year venturing into completely new segments, whereas the remaining six products lined up are facelifts to keep the models fresh in the market. Most significant of the lot is the upcoming Celerio diesel hatchback that will be launched in April followed by the S-Cross compact SUV that will be launched in May.

Maruti hit the bulls eye with the Celerio AMT and the company is planning to pull another blockbuster with the launch of the Celerio diesel. Touted to be the most affordable diesel powered car in the country, the model will use an 800cc twin-cylinder diesel engine under the hood that will be the smallest diesel engine to go on sale and will feature a small turbocharger as well. The Celerio diesel is expected to be sold with a manual transmission as of now.

Coming to the big launch of the year, Maruti Suzuki will be bringing the S-Cross in May. The model was scheduled to be launched by the end of this month but had to be postponed due to increase in excise duties. The S-Cross compact SUV will be competing against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the likes measuring 4.3-metres in length and has been tweaked for the Indian market. The crossover is powered by 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines overseas and the same could be offered in India as well. While the international version comes with a Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) variant, it is not clear yet if Maruti will offer the 4WD version right from the start.

Coming to Maruti’s other launches for 2015, the company will be bringing in a host of facelifts to the DZire, Ertiga, Eeco and Ritz. The company also has an all-new new LCV Super Carry in the works that will be launched in May, whereas the YRA premium hatchback will be launched during the festive season. Lastly, the recently facelifted Swift diesel will be equipped with an AMT gearbox by November this year.

The S-Cross will competing in the compact SUV space, an all-new territory for Maruti
