Maruti Suzuki Brezza completes decade in India; facelift update expected soon
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza has completed ten years in the Indian market, marking an important milestone for one of the brand’s most popular compact SUVs. Since its debut in March 2016, the model has recorded cumulative sales of more than 14 lakh units across two generations, establishing a strong presence in the highly competitive sub-4 metre SUV segment.
When it was first introduced as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the SUV entered the market with a starting price of Rs. 6.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). The early version was powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine and was offered with both manual and AMT gearbox options. With relatively limited direct competition at the time and a compelling value proposition, the model quickly gained popularity among buyers. Monthly sales frequently crossed the 12,000-unit mark during its initial years.
By 2018, cumulative sales had crossed 3.5 lakh units, indicating strong and consistent demand in the compact SUV category.
A significant milestone came in January 2020 when the Brezza crossed five lakh units in total sales. Shortly after, in February 2020, the model received a facelift that coincided with the transition to BS6 emission norms. During this update, the earlier diesel engine was discontinued and replaced by a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Prices at that time began from Rs. 7.34 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Another major update arrived in 2022 with the launch of the new-generation Brezza. The model dropped the ‘Vitara’ prefix and received notable design revisions, along with new features and technology upgrades. The lineup was also expanded with the introduction of a factory-fitted CNG option. By December 2023, total cumulative sales of the SUV had surpassed the 10 lakh mark.
As the model enters its tenth year, a mid-cycle facelift of the current-generation Brezza is expected to arrive in the coming months. Test vehicles have been spotted on multiple occasions, suggesting subtle design revisions. These could include a refreshed grille, updated bumper design, new alloy wheel patterns and possibly additional colour options.
Interior changes are also expected as part of the update. Recent test sightings indicate the possibility of a six-speed manual gearbox being added to the lineup. More information regarding feature upgrades, powertrain details and the launch timeline is likely to surface closer to the official reveal.
