The much awaited crash test results of the Global NCAP are out. The new Maruti Wagon R has scored a poor 2-star rating for both Adult and Child Occupant Protection. The car was crash tested at 64 km/hr and bodyshell integrity has been declared as unstable.

According to the Global NCAP results, the protection of driver and passenger’s head was good. Driver’s neck showed good protection as well but passenger neck protection was adequate. Driver and passenger’s chest has showed weak protection.

Driver and passenger’s knees have shown marginal protection due to dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the tranfascia tube. The bodyshell has been rated as unstable and it is not capable of
withstanding further loadings.

Footwell area of the Wagon R was rated as unstable as well. The child seat for a 3 year old was installed forward facing with adult seatbelt and it was not able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact and the head contacted with the front seat.

The 3 year old Child Restraint System (CRS) has failed during Global NCAP crash test. The 18 month old CRS was installed with an adult seatbelt rearward facing and it has shown good protection for the head and vulnerable for the chest.

The Maruti Wagon R does not come with 3 point belt in all seating positions and there are no ISOFIX anchorages on offer. This is the reason why it has scored 2 stars in the crash tests.
