Mercedes Benz Readying Electric C-Class Against BMW i4

Mercedes Benz C Class electric car will make its global unveil in 2024 while Indian launch will take place thereafter

Mercedes Benz is readying the electric version of its popular sedan, C Class, to take the fight against entry-level luxury EVs like the latest BMW i4. While the German marque has some offensive EV tech up its sleeves, it, however, didn’t make a mark all this while.

Even when it comes to India, though Mercedes-Benz has the lauded EQC and the upcoming EQS, BMW has already stolen the show with its recently launched i4 for a tempting price tag of Rs. 70 lakhs (ex-showroom).

That’s a good Rs. 30 lakhs cheaper than the EQC in the price-sensitive Indian market. In fact, the i4 has a much higher range of 590 km (WLTP) than the EQC’s rather moderate 420 km (WLTP) despite the lower price tag.

Now, the exciting news is that Mercedes-Benz is up for a fight. The company is readying 4 new electric architectures at Stuttgart for its upcoming bespoke EVs. Of the 4, 1 is the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) which will exclusively power the brand’s upcoming entry-level and midsize electric cars.

The company boldly claimed that it will launch an electric variant of all its present models by 2025. The upcoming C-Class electric car or less likely its equivalent is expected to get the same MMA platform with a global unveil by 2024 and an imminent Indian launch thereafter.

The C-Class is 1 of the highest selling luxury sedans in India

In addition to the C-Class, the MMA will also future-proof some of Mercedes’ best selling and crucial IC models. The C-Class and MMA would be an excellent combo has Mercedes’ has already tasted success with the C-Class C300e plug-in hybrid that has 1 of the longest EV-only ranges of 109 km.

Mercedes’ global EV lineup consists of the many cars from the EQA hatchback to the flagship EQS sedan. Keeping the C-Class electric aside, the brand will launch the midsize SUV EQE this year and G-Class electric in 2024 in the global markets.

The company claimed that all of its future EV models will combine power-dense battery packs with hyper-efficient motors, lightweight construction methods, and super-slick bodywork to fully maximise efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz launched the fifth-generation C-Class in India on 10th May for a starting price of Rs. 55 lakhs (ex-showroom). It gets 3 trims with prices going up to Rs. 61 lakhs (ex-showroom). An electric C-Class might surely disrupt the segment.
