Mercedes To Open AMG Exclusive Dealerships In India

The three Germans Mercedes, BMW and Audi are fighting it out big in the Indian auto market. While these three companies cater to the luxury segment mostly, they also have performance-centric versions of their vehicles in the form of AMG, M and S/RS series for Mercedes, BMW and Audi respectively. Mercedes has become very serious about their approach to the Indian market and the automaker sold 9500 vehicles in the previous year. Out of these, around 200 vehicles were from the AMG line-up. Officials from the German manufacturer are very optimistic to grow their AMG sales by double this year.

Mercedes-Benz is planning to set up AMG centres in three metro cities of India. These AMG centres will cater to customers who intend to buy or have already bought AMG vehicles. The staff will go through a thorough training session and they will help customers select the right vehicle and give service advice and customers will also get a chance to experience the AMG Driving Academy. AMG cars are sporty versions of regular cars that Mercedes produces. Each AMG engine is hand-built at the company’s plant in Affalterbach, Germany. The AMG brand has also been boosted by Mercedes’ performance at the F1 season where the team got three pole positions in 2014.

Mercedes will set up the AMG centres in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore for now. The company currently sells the C63 AMG, E63 AMG, SLK55 AMG, G63 AMG and the recently launched GL63 AMG in India. Mercedes is also going to get the CLA45 AMG to our market later this year. The regular CLA model will be launched next year. Prices of AMG cars are on the expensive side as they are completely imported. Mercedes sold 200 units of AMG cars last year and plans to sell at least 400 units this year. The German automaker is planning a product offensive in India by launching 10 new cars this financial year.
