It is the base variant that has seen the highest price hike

MG has increased the asking price of all the variants of the Gloster, its flagship product in India.

This hike has come into effect since the introductory pricing period that was valid till 31st October, or till first 2000 units got sold, ended.

Now, the car costs between Rs. 29.98-35.58 lakhs as opposed to Rs. 28.98-35.38 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom) that the car was available at from its launch.

As can be seen from the revised pricing, the base “Super” variant is now dearer by Rs. 1 lakh, while the “Smart” variant that sits just above it is costlier by Rs. 50,000/-.

The top two variants have not received such a steep price increase. The “Sharp” variant has seen its asking price raised by Rs. 30,000/- and the top-spec “Savvy” trim’s ex-showroom price is up by Rs. 20,000/-.

One thing to note is that the revised prices include MG’s Shield customisation package which is worth Rs. 50,000/-.

Despite the MG Gloster price hike announcement, we expect the SUV to do well since it remains a very appealing package and comes loaded with features, including several segment-first Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), among others.

Customers have the option of choosing between a 2.0-litre turbo engine developing 163 PS and 375 Nm (for 2-wheel-drive) and a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel motor that puts out 218 PS and 480 Nm (four-wheel-drive).

Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and while the lower-powered engine comes in the first two trims, the higher powered engine is offered only on the top two trims

Rivals of the MG Gloster include the Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4 and the Ford Endeavour. To read our comprehensive review of the Gloster, click here.
