MG Motor has filed a design patent for Chinese SUV Wuling 560 in India. The 7-seater SUV is going to be launched in India later this year as a rival to the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.
The design of the Starlight 560 might remind of the Hyundai Alcazar from the front 3/4th angle. The vehicle gets LED headlamps, U-Shaped DRLs, faux skid plates, blacked out pillars, etc.
Under the hood will be a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 1.5-litre petrol engine making 104 HP and 130 Nm, along with an electric motor on the front axle for a combined power output of 194 HP and 230 Nm. The vehicle has a 20.5 kWh battery which gives it a range of around 100 kms in pure EV mode.
Globally, there is also an EV version of this SUV with a 56.7 kWh battery delivering around 500 kms of range. It remains to be seen what powertrain options will be launched in India.
The vehicle is likely to get a new name in India and will be manufactured at MG’s plant in Halol, Gujarat. While the exact launch timeline isn’t announced, we can expect the vehicle to be on sale in the second half of this year.
