MINI Cooper S Carbon Edition Launched, Priced From Rs. 39.9 Lakhs

MINI has launched the limited edition Cooper S Carbon Edition and it is priced from Rs. 39.90 lakhs.

The Cooper S Carbon Edition is the fastest MINI sold in India

Mini has launched a limited-run model of the three-door Cooper S, called the ‘Carbon Edition’. This variant can only be booked online via Amazon and is priced from Rs. 39.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is about Rs. 8 lakhs more than what the standard Cooper S retails at. There is another variant which is available at Rs. 41.5 lakhs and it comes with a wheel package.

For this extra amount, customers get the JCW (John Cooper Works) tuning package along with some other modifications. On the exterior, there’s an aero kit with larger air intakes and rear spoiler, a sports exhaust system with two different soundtracks and dual carbon exhaust tips, carbon elements on the side-view mirrors and the bonnet and 17-inch gloss black wheels wrapped around in 205 mm wide tyres. Meanwhile, inside, there are JCW sport seats, a Head-Up Display system and an 8.8-inch infotainment screen.

Under the hood, the Cooper S Carbon Edition packs the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, but with the power and torque increased to 210 HP and 300 Nm respectively. This is less power than the pure-bred three-door JCW hatch (which isn’t sold in India) but more than the standard Cooper S, which generates 192 HP and 280 Nm of torque.

Moreover, with Launch Control, the Carbon Edition model is 0.2 seconds faster to 100 km/hr with a time of 6.5 seconds. And MINI states that with the electronically adjustable dampers, drivers will experience “true go-kart handling” in the Sport mode.

Interestingly, in terms of the 0-100 km/hr acceleration times, the Cooper S Carbon Edition outpaces some of the most popular performance cars under the Rs. 50 lakhs-bracket, like the BMW 320d (7.6 seconds), the Jaguar XE (6.8 seconds) and the Abarth 595 (7.4 seconds). However, unlike the BMW and the Jaguar and just like the Abarth, it is driven by the front wheels which get the power by a 6-speed automatic gearbox (with paddles, of course).

All being said, if you want to buy the Cooper S Carbon Edition, better hurry up as Mini states that only 20 units will come to India. By comparison, Australia got 40 Carbon Editions and the United States got 150.
