Ford is developing the new Ka or as we know it, the Figo, along with the next-gen EcoSport in Brazil.

2019 Ford Figo Video Review
It is going to be based on the existing Ford’s B-platform

Even though the Ford Figo hatchback and the Aspire compact sedan are excellent models, they have failed to generate volumes in India. However, since they are widely accepted in Brazil, the development of the next-gen models has begun. Having said that, there is no information on whether there will be a launch in India or not.

The new models will be reconstructed on the current platform itself, i.e. Ford’s B-platform. The project has been going on since 2018, and is codenamed ‘B680.’ The new Ka will be accompanied with its sister sedan as well, codenamed B680S, which is supposedly going to be the new Ford Aspire. They’ll comprise of much better quality materials and will have better interior space.

The duo is predicted to be larger in size and will sit in the B-segment than the current A-segment. The next-gen Ka will compete with the likes of the Volkswagen Polo and the Hyundai i20. The current-gen models might still be on sale to be the ‘entry models.’

Along with the Ka, the next-gen EcoSport, codenamed BX755 is also underway. The design will be on the lines to rival the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, etc. I must say, Ford is definitely taking a massive gamble to jump in such a competitive segment.

Both of these models are being spoken about internationally and will be marketed on a global scale. But in which countries will these be launched, still remains unclear. The project is going on at the manufacturer’s Camacari plant in Brazil. Ford’s perspective to cut costs by using the same platform as these cars don’t fancy much of the audience, is totally justified.

Ford’s Figo (or Ka) and EcoSport are the major players in minting revenues for the company. Hence, we could see the replacement of these two by 2022, if at least not 2021.
