New Gen Volkswagen Vento Launch Scheduled For Q1 2022

Volkswagen has confirmed it will launch the new generation Vento in 2022, specifically in the first quarter (Q1) of the calendar year.

This was revealed by Brand Director of Volkswagen India, Ashish Gupta, recently. This means, Skoda will introduce its new Rapid ahead of the Vento’s successor, which is in contrast to what reports stated last year.

The model might be given a new name and is likely to be bigger than the current Vento, for Skoda has revealed that the new generation Rapid, which will effectively be the twin of the new Vento, will be a touch bigger in size than the model currently on sale.

Do note that the Volkswagen Virtus was spotted testing in India in December last year. So, it is clear along which lines the new C-segment sedan is being developed.

To be underpinned by the MQB A0 IN platform, it is likely that the soon-to-be revealed Taigun’s interior bits will be shared with the new generation Vento to keep costs in check.

However, this is no bad thing, for the Taigun (and its twin the Kushaq) will come loaded with features and this strategy should help the C-segment sedan come out as a premium offering.

The powertrains too will likely mirror that of the Taigun. While the 1.0-litre petrol engine will be the mainstay, the car might get the 1.5-litre turbo petrol option in the top variant at least. But, nothing is concrete as of now.

When the 2022 Volkswagen Vento launch takes place, it might cost upwards of Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom), like the fifth-generation Honda City.

The car should be more spacious inside than the current Vento
