Yamaha may finally be getting ready to expand its electric scooter lineup. New design patents filed in Japan have revealed an all-new electric scooter that looks almost ready for production. While there’s no official launch timeline yet, the detailed design suggests this isn’t just an early concept. It looks like a practical scooter built for daily commuting, with a slightly larger design than the RayZR and styling inspired by Yamaha’s existing electric models.
One of the biggest highlights is what’s underneath the bodywork. Instead of using a motor mounted near the rear wheel like most electric scooters, Yamaha has placed the motor in the middle of the scooter and uses a belt to drive the rear wheel. It’s an unusual setup for a scooter and could help improve balance and make the ride feel more stable. The battery sits under the seat and is expected to be removable, making it easier to charge.
The patent images also reveal a few interesting details. The scooter gets telescopic front forks, twin rear shock absorbers, disc brakes at both ends and what look like 12-inch alloy wheels. The LED headlight design is quite different from Yamaha’s current scooters, while the rear gets a sleek tail lamp. There’s also a small TFT display, keyless ignition and a few storage spaces on the front apron, making it look well-equipped for everyday use.
Yamaha hasn’t revealed any specifications yet, so details like battery size, range and performance are still unknown. However, judging by its design, this scooter seems to be aimed at riders looking for a simple, practical and comfortable electric scooter rather than a high-performance machine. It appears to fit the same space as today’s popular 125cc petrol scooters.
As of now, there’s no word on whether this new electric scooter will be launched in India. But with the country’s EV market growing rapidly, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Yamaha bring it here in the future.
