Nissan Reveals Terrano PHEV Concept, India Bound?

Nissan has unveiled the Nissan Terrano Concept at the Beijing Auto Show 2026, offering a glimpse into its future electrified SUV strategy for the Chinese market. The concept also marks the revival of the Terrano nameplate, previously used in India for a midsize SUV based on the Renault Duster.

Unlike its earlier iteration, the new Terrano concept adopts a more rugged and off-road-oriented design language. The SUV features a boxy stance with upright proportions, giving it a distinctly utilitarian appearance. At the front, it gets a segmented LED headlamp setup, a bold grille area with spaced-out branding, and a sculpted bumper that enhances its muscular appeal. Additional elements such as fender-mounted auxiliary lights and a bonnet scoop further underline its off-road intent.

In profile, the Terrano concept continues with a robust theme. It is equipped with prominent body cladding, squared wheel arches and chunky off-road tyres. Practical additions such as a roof rack with integrated lighting and a side-mounted ladder suggest a focus on adventure-oriented usage. The window line features a noticeable kink, adding a visual break to the otherwise straight-edged silhouette.

At the rear, the concept incorporates a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, held in place by a prominent structural beam. The lighting setup is minimalistic, comprising multiple compact LED elements, while the bumper design remains in line with the SUV’s rugged theme.

Nissan has confirmed that the Terrano concept is powered by a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, although technical specifications have not yet been disclosed. The carmaker has also indicated that a production-ready version of the SUV is expected to be revealed within the next year, as part of its broader push towards electrified mobility in China.
