Porsche To Launch Boxster GTS, 911 Targa, Cayman GTS In India

While premium vehicle manufacturers are already on a product offensive in India, other companies which cater to only a niche segment are also not far behind. Porsche, which sells sports cars generates lesser sales compared to Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi since they cater to completely different segments. Porsche has just launched the Macan SUV in India. While the Macan is smaller than the Cayenne, the automaker has priced it way above the latter, showing that even overpriced yet exclusive vehicles have a market here.

Even though the Macan launch is finally done, Porsche is not the one to sit silent now. The German sports car maker will be launching three new products in India in a span of six months. While the regular Boxster is already on sale in India, Porsche will now be introducing the Boxster GTS to the line-up. The 911 Targa and Cayman GTS will also make their debut in the Indian market. The Porsche Boxster GTS provides better performance than the regular Boxster. It is powered by a 3436cc engine that gives out 330 HP of power and 370 Nm of torque. The engine is either mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed PDK gearbox. The Boxster GTS goes from 0-100 km/hr in 5 seconds for the manual and 4.9 seconds for the PDK.

Just like the regular Boxster, Porsche launched the Cayman too in India. The Cayman comes in a coupe body style and now Porsche will be launching the Cayman GTS here. The Cayman GTS comes with a 3436cc engine that is similar to the one that powers the Boxster. The Cayman GTS gives out 340 HP of power and 380 Nm of torque which is only marginally higher than the Boxster GTS. The 0-100 km/hr run is also a tad quicker at 4.9 seconds and 4.8 seconds for the manual and PDK gearboxes respectively.

Next up is the 911 Targa which is a damn beautiful sports car. It comes with a targa top which means that the vehicle is not a full-blown convertible but yet it allows for the roof to be opened from the top. The 911 Targa is also powered by a 3436cc engine and here the powerplant gives out slightly more power at 350 HP while peak torque is 390 Nm. Here, the manual gearbox is also a 7-speed unit while the 7-speed PDK is also an option.

Even though the 911 Targa is more powerful than the other two, the 0-100 km/hr sprint is slower at 5.2 seconds and 5 seconds for the manual and PDK respectively. The marginally lesser acceleration can be attributed to the fact that the Targa is heavier than the Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS. Expect Porsche to price these cars optimistically like they do with all their products in the Indian market.
