In light of the current pandemic, the President’s office has deferred the next car purchase.

The President’s office was going to purchase the new S600 Pullman Guard

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has led to a lot of unfortunate scenarios and literally everyone is in cost-saving mode right now. While a lot of measures are already being brought out by the Government, the President’s office is also saving costs and they have also cancelled a new car purchase.

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind currently uses a Mercedes S600 Pullman Guard. This luxury sedan comes equipped with safety measures like VR7-level protection and comes powered by a 5.5-litre, V12, twin-turbo engine making 517 HP and 830 Nm. This is the previous generation of the S-Class (W221) and it had come into service during Pranab Mukherjee’s tenure.

The President’s office was going to purchase a new Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard (based on the V222) and this model gets a 6.0-litre, V12, twin-turbo engine delivering 530 HP and 830 Nm. The purchase has been cancelled and the President will continue using the present car.

Talking about the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Pullman Guard, it comes with VR9-level protection, can withstand 15 kgs of TNT from a distance of 2-metres, can withstand 7.62x51mm rifle rounds, and comes fitted with ERV 2010-level. The cost of the vehicle would have been between Rs. 15-16 crores (on-road). Since it would be meant for the President, the vehicle would come equipped with some more safety features that remain undisclosed.
