Pulsar CS 400 Renamed Pulsar VS 400, Produces 34.5 BHP

The much awaited Pulsar CS 400 has been renamed to Pulsar VS 400. The 373.2cc Pulsar VS 400 produces 34.51 HP of power which is a lot lower than expected

Pulsar CS 400 is now Pulsar VS 400

The wait for the Pulsar Cruiser Sport has been long and finally fresh details have emerged which signal to the launch not being far away. Bajaj Auto has renamed the Pulsar CS 400 to Pulsar VS 400, where V might either stand for Victory or Vikrant or probably something else. Fresh images of the Pulsar VS 400 have leaked (seem to be from the brochure) where VS 400 can be clearly seen written on the rear of the bike.

The Pulsar VS 400 will be available in a two-tone dark blue/black colour and the motorcycle largely resembles the Pulsar CS 400 Concept which made its world debut at the 2014 Auto Expo. The bike retains the LED headlights (a first for an Indian bike) but drops the upside down front forks in lieu of the conventional telescopic units. The VS 400 in the brochure features dual-channel ABS but a non-ABS variant too will be launched.

ARAI certificate of the Pulsar VS 400 has leaked which reveals the power output of the motorcycle which at 34.51 HP (25.74 kW) at 8000 RPM is a lot less than we expected. Powering the upcoming flagship Bajaj is the same 373.27cc single-cylinder engine that does duty on the KTM Duke 390 but where the Austrian bike produces 43 HP (32 kW) of power at 9500 RPM, the Pulsar VS 400 is a full 8.49 HP lower.

Other than the displacement and the bottom half of the engine being common, there are going to be a ton of differences between the KTM and Bajaj bikes although both are liquid-cooled motors, matched to a 6-speed gearbox. The Duke 390 features a slipper clutch which the Pulsar will miss out on while the latter will have triple spark technology. The KTM motor is very advanced and uses a forged piston, Nikasil coating and DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) finger followers.

The Pulsar VS 400 gets LED headlights with daytime running lights (always-on headlight), twin clusters (secondary one is on the tank which shows tell-tale lights) and LED tail lights. The motorcycle’s gross weight is 332 kgs (includes fuel with both rider and pillion). Set to rival the Mahindra Mojo while also competing with Royal Enfield motorcycles, the Pulsar VS 400 will be priced under Rs. 1.8 lakhs.
