RE Classic 500 Scrambler Spotted, Might Have BS6 Engine

The prototype which was spotted is likely to come with ABS as well.

A supposed Royal Enfield Classic 500 Scrambler prototype was spotted on 27th November with an “On test by ARAI” license plate. The prototype looks like it still has a lot of rough edges to polish up, but it is expected that Royal Enfield will bring something new to the Indian biker fanatics. The Classic 500 Scrambler is speculated to be a variant extension, but with the Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle still in high demand, it is unlikely that the Scrambler will become the brand’s top-selling bike.

There is also the chance that the prototype could have been used to test a BS6-compliant engine. But for now, the pictures show that the prototype has off-road biased tires with short fenders on both ends. The prototype also has a tall and wide handlebar with a centre brace. The pillion seat has been removed and there is no rear parcel rack. The off-road spec exhaust is upswept at an awkward angle. The Scrambler looks like a mixture of various Classic 500 variants. The fuel tank is observed to be from the chrome variant while the side cowl has a silver finish.

Some of the parts on the prototype take inspiration from the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 as well. The tail light and the turn indicators are similar to the GT 650. The front suspension which uses fork gaiters and a brace is also from the the GT 650. The relaxed ergonomics of the bike are highlighted by the rider triangle observed in the pictures. Another image of the prototype suggests that it comes with ABS.

While the specifications of the engine are still unknown, there is a possibility that it’ll employ the same 499cc, single-cylinder BS4-compliant engine. It can produce a power of 27.1 HP and a peak torque of 41.3 Nm. This is paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
