Suzuki Motorcycle India reported its highest annual sales for the Suzuki Hayabusa in FY2026, even as pricing pressures in the latter half of the year affected demand. The flagship superbike clocked 543 units during the fiscal, marking a 6 percent year-on-year increase and setting a new record for the model in the Indian market.
The Hayabusa continues to dominate the niche 1000-1600cc motorcycle segment, accounting for nearly half of total sales in this category. However, its segment share declined compared to the previous year, indicating growing competition and sensitivity to price changes in the premium motorcycle space.
Strong Start, Slower Second Half
Sales momentum for the Hayabusa remained robust in the first half of FY2026, with over 300 units dispatched. However, demand softened significantly in the second half, with volumes dropping by more than 30 percent compared to the first six months.
This slowdown coincided with the implementation of GST 2.0, which led to a notable price increase for large-capacity motorcycles. The Hayabusa’s ex-showroom price rose by over Rs 1 lakh, impacting affordability and purchase decisions in a segment already characterised by limited volumes.
Segment Growth Continues Despite Pricing Pressures
The 1000-1600cc motorcycle category, which includes models like the Kawasaki Ninja 1100SX and offerings from Harley-Davidson, witnessed strong growth overall in FY2026. Total segment volumes rose to over 1,100 units, reflecting increasing interest in premium motorcycles despite higher ownership costs.
While the Hayabusa retained its position as the top-selling model in this category for the fourth consecutive year, competitors made notable gains. Kawasaki, in particular, recorded a sharp rise in volumes, while Triumph experienced a decline during the same period.
Legacy And Engineering Appeal Remain Strong
Now in its third generation, the Hayabusa continues to attract buyers with its blend of performance and heritage. Powered by a 1340cc in-line four-cylinder engine, the motorcycle is known for its high-speed capability and refined engineering. It remains one of the most recognisable superbikes globally and holds a strong aspirational value among enthusiasts in India.
Since its introduction in the country as a fully imported model and later as a locally assembled product, cumulative sales of the Hayabusa have approached the 3,000-unit mark. This underlines its sustained appeal in a highly niche segment over the years.
Broader Business Performance
For FY2026, Suzuki Motorcycle India reported overall sales of approximately 1.17 million two-wheelers, reflecting steady growth driven largely by scooters. Motorcycles contributed a smaller share to the company’s total volumes, highlighting the continued dominance of the commuter and scooter segments in the Indian market.
