Tata Altroz to get dual-clutch transmission and not AMT.

The Altroz will get a dual-clutch transmission instead of AMT

The Tata Altroz is about to hit the roads in the first week of February 2020. The hatchback will be offered with only a 5-speed manual transmission for both petrol and diesel engines at the time of launch.

There is no AMT on offer as the Indian carmaker believes that their premium line-up should have dual-clutch automatic transmission instead of the automated manual transmission.

Tata Motors is currently working on the new dual-clutch transmission for the Altroz. It will offer quicker shifts and better fuel efficiency compared to the AMT gearbox.

It will be the first DCT from Tata Motors and will be introduced only with the petrol powered Altroz and not the diesel one.

The dual-clutch auto will be a Punch-sourced 7-speed DT-1 transmission. It is designed for small cars with a torque output of up to 200 Nm. Also, it is relatively cheaper than the other typical DCT and torque converter transmissions.

Most of the Altroz rivals like Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20 come with CVT auto while the Polo GT TSI is available with DCT. Tata Motors is expected to introduce the dual-clutch auto with the Altroz by October 2020.
