Tata launches petrol-powered Harrier and Safari with new Hyperion turbo engine
Tata Motors has introduced new petrol-powered versions of the Harrier and Safari, expanding both model line-ups beyond their existing diesel configurations. Prices for the petrol Harrier begin at Rs. 12.89 lakhs, while the petrol Safari starts from Rs. 13.29 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Both SUVs are powered by Tata’s new 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine, branded ‘Hyperion’. The engine produces 168 HP at 5000 RPM and 280 Nm of torque between 1750 RPM and 3500 RPM. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
The petrol Harrier will be offered in eight variants: Smart, Pure X, Adventure X, Adventure X+, Fearless X, Fearless X+, Fearless Ultra and Fearless Ultra Red Dark.
The Safari petrol range will consist of 10 variants: Smart, Pure X, Adventure X+, Accomplished X, Accomplished X+, Accomplished X+ 6S, Accomplished Ultra, Accomplished Ultra 6S, Accomplished Ultra Red Dark and Accomplished Ultra Red Dark 6S.
Both SUVs gain additional features as part of the petrol introduction, including front and rear camera washers, ORVMs with memory and auto reverse-dip functionality, and a digital IRVM with integrated dashcam. The infotainment system has also received an upgrade – the models now feature a Harman interface operating on a 14.5-inch Samsung Neo QLED display with built-in navigation, Dolby Atmos audio processing and Alexa support.
The launch of the petrol variants enables Tata Motors to address a wider audience, especially in markets where petrol SUVs continue to see strong demand.
