Tata Motors crosses 2.5 lakh EV sales as Nexon EV leads growth

Tata Motors has crossed a cumulative electric vehicle sales milestone of 2.5 lakh units in India, reinforcing its leadership position in the country’s passenger EV market. The company currently holds an estimated 66 percent share of the electric passenger vehicle segment.

A key contributor to this milestone has been the Tata Nexon EV, which has become the only electric car in India to record more than one lakh cumulative sales since its launch in 2020. The model has consistently featured among the country’s top-selling EVs over the past few years.

Tata Motors’ current EV portfolio spans multiple body styles and price points. Its offerings include the Tiago.ev, Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev and Harrier.ev, along with the Xpress-T EV aimed at fleet operators. This wide-ranging line-up has helped the company address both private and commercial demand for electric mobility.

Looking ahead, Tata Motors plans to expand its EV portfolio further as part of its longer-term strategy. By FY2030, the automaker intends to introduce five new electric nameplates, including the Sierra.ev and models based on the Avinya platform, alongside periodic updates to existing products. The Sierra.ev and the next-generation Punch.ev are expected to arrive in 2026, while the Avinya-based premium electric models are slated for introduction around the end of next year.

In parallel with vehicle expansion, Tata Motors is also investing heavily in charging infrastructure. The company is rolling out next-generation fast-charging solutions and aims to establish around 4 lakh charging points by calendar year 2027, including approximately 30,000 public fast chargers. Its longer-term target is to support up to one million chargers nationwide, with 1 lakh public charging points in place by 2030.
