The Tata Nexon Coupe EV is likely to be introduced in the market next year

Tata Motors, which has made great strides in the passenger vehicle market, is expected to launch a new electric vehicle (EV) in 2023. It is likely to be the battery-powered version of the much-talked-about Nexon Coupe that is under development.

In January this year, it came to light that Tata has restarted development of a circa 4.3-metre long compact crossover. The new car will be offered in internal combustion and electric forms, the report had said.

Based on the Nexon’s X1 architecture, the new car, currently called the Nexon Coupe, is said to have a 50 mm longer wheelbase than the best-selling sub-4-metre crossover and a longer body thanks to increased rear overhang.

This would result in the vehicle having improved legroom for rear seat occupants and a larger boot than the Nexon. Visually, the Nexon Coupe will have a completely revised front end and a new rear section.

Tata is soon expected to launch the long-range Nexon EV in the market

While its front windshield and front doors are likely to be similar to the Nexon, the second row doors will be longer (thanks to the increased wheelbase) and there will be a sloping roofline as well.

While the launch timeline of the Tata Nexon Coupe EV is known, details like the model’s electric powertrain are not clear. It could make use of the upcoming Nexon EV long-range model’s 40 kWh battery pack coupled to a more powerful electric motor.

However, much more is discernible when it comes to the powertrains of the Nexon Coupe’s internal combustion variant. The petrol model is likely to come with a 160 HP, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, while the current 1.5-litre diesel mill will also be used, albeit with a different tune.

As mentioned above, the Tata Nexon Coupe EV will arrive to the market in 2023, while the petrol and diesel versions of the crossover should get launched shortly after.
