Tata Safari EV To Be Launched By Diwali 2026

Tata Motors is set to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with the introduction of the Tata Safari EV, which is expected to go on sale around the festive season this year. Positioned above the Tata Harrier EV, the Safari EV will take on the role of the brand’s flagship electric offering and, notably, become Tata’s first three-row EV in the Indian market. Its arrival will also complete Tata’s strategy of offering electric versions across its existing SUV lineup.

Under the skin, the Safari EV will share its architecture and powertrain options with the Harrier EV, leveraging the acti.ev+ platform. This is essentially an ICE-to-EV conversion rather than a ground-up electric vehicle, allowing Tata to bring the model to market more quickly.

Battery options are expected to include 65kWh and 75kWh packs, paired with a standard rear-wheel-drive layout, while a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration is likely to be offered on higher variants. However, due to its larger size and added weight, the Safari EV may deliver slightly lower range figures compared to the Harrier EV, which currently offers a claimed range of over 600km with its larger battery pack.

In terms of features and capability, the Safari EV is expected to carry forward several enhancements seen on the Harrier EV. These include multiple terrain modes, a multi-link rear suspension setup for improved ride comfort, and fast-charging support of up to 100kW.

Additionally, the introduction of Tata’s TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer) will enable a range of connected and convenience features such as over-the-air updates, a 540-degree camera system, Level 2 ADAS, auto park assist, and even in-car payment functionality.

Visually and inside the cabin, changes are expected to be subtle. The Safari EV will likely feature EV-specific styling cues such as a closed-off grille, redesigned bumpers, and aerodynamic alloy wheels, while the interior layout is expected to remain largely similar to the ICE-powered Tata Safari. The focus will instead be on adding new technology and improving the overall user experience through software upgrades.

Production of the Safari EV is expected to begin around August 2026, with Tata aiming to capitalise on the festive season demand. The model is projected to add incremental sales of around 1000 to 1500 units and will compete directly with rivals like the Mahindra XEV 9S. Pricing is expected to fall in the range of Rs 22.5 lakh to Rs 30 lakh, positioning it as a premium electric SUV offering in the Indian market.
