Top 10 Selling Scooters In February 2016, Activa Dominates

Honda Activa 125 vs Vespa

With scooters becoming a hot segment in India, we take a look at the top 10 selling scooters in the month of February 2016.

Scooters are slowly gaining more and more popularity

With worsening road and traffic conditions across major cities of India, riding a motorcycle has become a pain. This has led to a rise in the sale of scooters which offer great convenience at the cost of slightly lesser fuel efficiency. The comfort of not shifting gears and modulating the clutch offsets the higher running costs.

The top position in the sales chart is held by the Honda Activa which has almost 50% share in the top 10 selling scooters. It is the brand value which helps the outdated scooter outsell much newer competition. A distant second is a very competitive scooter from TVS, the Jupiter. Lagging slightly behind the Jupiter is the Hero Maestro Edge which was launched by the company a few months ago.

The Hero Duet follows the Maestro Edge with a rise in sales of almost 30%. At a distant fifth position is the Yamaha Fascino which is garnering decent numbers due to its looks. It is being touted as the poor man’s Vespa and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The Suzuki Access which was recently launched in its new avatar comes in at sixth position.

The Honda Dio which saw a massive decline in sales comes in at the seventh spot with its sibling Aviator following it. The Yamaha Ray which was showcased in the new ZR avatar at the 2016 Auto Expo comes in at the ninth position. With power scooters coming into the market soon, the sales chart will become much more interesting in the coming months.
