Top 10 Worst Selling Cars In India In May 2015

2014 Renault Fluence Test Drive

Let us have a look at some of the least selling cars in the Indian market. While most of them are duds, some very capable cars too make their way to this list.

Many of the worst selling cars are from mass-market segments

Last week, we had a look at the top 10 selling cars in India in May 2015. After talking about the hottest sellers in the Indian market, we now analyse the top 10 least selling cars from the same month. Topping this list is the Honda CR-V which sold 48 units in May. The most significant reason for this car’s low sales is its high price and the non-availability of a diesel engine. Following the CR-V is the Ford Fiesta, which despite being such a good product, sold only 46 units and its quite saddening. The Mahindra Verito Vibe closely tails the Fiesta at 43 units.

The Volkswagen Vento sells in decent numbers each month but in May it sold only 33 units thanks to the fact that the company is about to launch the new facelift of the sedan. The Aria is another big dud from Tata Motors contributing only 29 units in May. The MPV is used widely in the taxi market. The SsangYong Rexton, which was brought to India by Mahindra, never managed to set the registers ringing and it closed this month at just 28 units. The Skoda Yeti is another slow seller and the German automaker sold just 7 units, no doubt that it is a good car though.

The Renault Fluence is a fairly good vehicle but the only thing that didn’t work in its favour is the unfamiliar brand name for a car in this segment. The Chevrolet Captiva, which should be discontinued soon, managed to sell only 4 units while the highly spacious Nissan Evalia closed the month at 3 units. The Evalia could have been a success in the commercial segment but it seems that overtaking the Toyota Innova in the MPV market is just not as easy.
