Top 25 Selling Cars In October 2017 – 24 Asian Cars

Maruti Celerio vs Hyundai Grand i10 Automatic

The month of October has been quite disappointing for the domestic car market in India.

Maruti Suzuki continues to rule the roost in the Indian domestic car market with 12 of its cars featuring in the top-selling cars’ list. Though the Dzire, Alto and Baleno clock a negative growth in sales, they continue to be in top three slots. The list above is self-explanatory and let’s talk about the new car launches that happened in the month of October 2017 and of course, the cars that couldn’t make it to the top selling list.

The launch of the Jeep Compass in India has not only turned around the fortunes for FCA in India but it has also made the carmaker lose the tag of being the worst performer. Skoda is that now. It sold only 1706 units with the Rapid accounting for over half of that number. Newly launched Kodiaq sold 289 units. General Motors reported 0 sales for the month of October 2017. Fiat sold 2455 units of the Jeep Compass and just 90 units of the Punto, Punto Evo and Avventura. German carmaker Volkswagen sold 2165, 1224 and 50 units of the Polo, Ameo and Tiguan respectively. Total sales of the carmaker are 3929 units for October.

Ford continued to bank on the EcoSport brand in India to date but the news of the launch of its new avatar probably has held back its sales. The American carmaker sold just 400 units of the EcoSport in October while the Figo and Aspire sold 1112 and 2180 units respectively. Datsun’s redi-GO, GO and GO+ continue to back Nissan’s India sales. 2544 units of the redi-GO were sold in the month of October and Datsun also recently rolled out its 1 lakhth car from its Chennai facility.

The Micra and Sunny sold 686 and 163 units respectively. The Kwid sold 8136 units while the Duster sold 919 units for Renault. Meanwhile, the French carmaker also launched the Captur in India this month. How well has the Captur been received, next month’s sales figures will tell. Toyota continues to bank on the Innova and Fortuner brand in India with both selling 6455 and 2192 units respectively. The Etios sold 2440 units in October 2017.

Honda loses the fourth spot to Tata Motors by selling 14,234 units of which the Jazz and Amaze (the most sold Honda cars after the City and WR-V) contributed 2646 and 1845 units respectively. The last 4 car launches of Tata have made other car manufacturers sit up and take notice. The recently launched Nexon sold 3099 units while the Tigor and Tiago sold 1945 and 6990 units respectively. Mahindra sold a total of 21,525 units in October with the Bolero, Scorpio, TUV300 and XUV500 contributing 8395, 3422, 2781 and 2697 units respectively. The automaker launched the KUV100 NXT in the last month which fetched sales of 3621 units.

Hyundai sold a total of 49,588 units in October with the Verna emerging as the top-selling mid-size sedan in India for the second consecutive month. The cooled seats and the other long list of features seem to be doing the trick for the Verna. Maruti sold 1,35,128 units in October as opposed to 1,50,521 units in September 2017 thereby clocking a negative growth of over 10 percent. Surprisingly, the S-Cross features this time on the top-selling list. It sold 5510 units in October 2017. Will it give the Creta and others a run for their money? We seriously doubt!
