Hyundai and Kia siblings are putting the charts on fire, rivals are far away

June 2020 SUV sales have surprised us to a big extent. Mid-SUV segment is the only one that has reported positive growth in passenger vehicle sales, 19 percent to be precise.

The biggest contributor here is the new generation Hyundai Creta. Despite the pandemic crisis, Hyundai has managed to sell 7207 units of the Creta. Compared to the previous year, it has seen a mild 14 percent fall in YoY sales.

Kia Seltos comes close second with 7114 units. It will complete its 1st year of launch in August. The Mahindra Scorpio comes a distant third with 2574 units and 16 percent fall in sales.

Since the Maruti S-Cross hasn’t been introduced with BS6 petrol yet, there are 0 sales on the chart. Renault has discontinued the Captur and there were no units sold in June.

This segment has seen a cumulative sales of 20,252 units with 19 percent growth. In May 2020, it witnessed only 6822 unit sales.

Top order remains the same but posts better growth

While the mid-SUV segment reported strong numbers, the premium SUV segment is slowly improving. Compared to May 2020’s 533 units cumulative sales, it has witnessed 1262 units of cumulative sales. Compared to previous year, it has seen 48 percent decline in sales.

The Toyota Fortuner leads the pack with 713 units and 42 percent degrowth. Ford Endeavour comes second scoring 366 units and 49 percent degrowth.

Skoda Kodiaq is a mysterious addition to the list since it was discontinued. We believe these are the dispatched units to dealers. It is the only SUV in the list with positive growth of 62 percent and 151 unit sales. As we inch towards the festive season, we can expect strong revival.
