The reveal of the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 shows how successful its smaller triple platform has been

The official global reveal of the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 sport-tourer has taken place today. According to the marque, the motorcycle has been designed to set the new category benchmark for handling.

Based on the Trident 660, the middleweight machine has new bodywork. A semi-fairing up front houses a tall adjustable flyscreen and twin headlights. While, just below are the sculpted radiator cowls and fork protectors.

One cannot miss the teardrop mirrors, aluminium tapered handlebars, the underslung stainless-steel silencer, the minimal rear end and the contoured tail lamp either.

In addition, Triumph has fitted the bike with a touring-oriented seat, pillion grab handles and, pannier mounts, further reiterating is positioning in the market.

Measuring 2071 mm long, 834 mm wide and 1315 mm tall (screen set low), the Tiger Sport 660 has a 1418 mm wheelbase. Thus it is longer, wider and taller than the Trident 660.

In all, there are over 40 accessories with 2-year, unlimited mileage warranty for the bike

It has a seat height of 835 mm, a 17.2 litre fuel tank and a wet weight 206 kg, meaning it has a 30 mm taller seat and is heavier by 17 kg than the middleweight roadster.

During the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 reveal, the marque said the bike comes with full-LED lighting with self-cancelling indicators, a TFT display, ride-by-wire throttle, riding modes (Road and Rain), ABS and switchable traction control.

Power comes from a 660cc 3-cylinder motor making 81 PS at 10,250 RPM and 64 Nm at 6250 RPM. It is teamed to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.

It can hold 3 litres more fuel than the Trident 660

Built on a steel perimeter frame, the motorcycle rides on 5-spoke 17-inch cast aluminium wheels wrapped with 120/70-section front and 180/55-section rear Michelin Road 5 tyres.

Suspension hardware is from Showa and consists of 41 mm inverted front forks and rear adjustable monoshock (both with 150 mm travel).

It has the same suspension and brakes as the Trident 660

Stopping power comes from twin 310 mm front discs with 2-piston Nissin calipers and 255 mm rear disc with single-piston Nissin caliper and there is dual channel ABS assist.

Customers have 3 colours to choose from and they are Graphite with Black, Korosi Red with Graphite and Lucerne Blue with Sapphire Black.

This paint scheme is the more sober one

The bike comes with a 16,000 km or 12 months service interval, plus a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty, which can be extended by 1 or 2 years.

Since the Trident 660 is on sale in India, this motorcycle should make it to our shores as well. If it does, it would be priced above the roadster that costs Rs. 6.95 lakhs (ex-showroom).
