Volkswagen launches locally assembled Tayron R-Line 3-row flagship SUV in India
Volkswagen has introduced the Tayron R-Line in India with an introductory price of Rs. 46.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). The SUV becomes the brand’s flagship offering in the market and is positioned as a three-row alternative to the Tiguan R-Line. Unlike the Tiguan R-Line that was brought in as a fully built import, the Tayron is assembled locally at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility in Maharashtra.
The Tayron R-Line shares its core mechanical package with the Tiguan R-Line and Skoda Kodiaq. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 204 HP and 320 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. Volkswagen claims the SUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 224 km/hr.
Pricing and positioning
Despite offering an additional third row and a larger body, the Tayron R-Line is priced only slightly above the five-seat Tiguan R-Line. It also sits within the premium three-row SUV segment where it competes with models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and MG Majestor.
Exterior styling and dimensions
At a glance, the Tayron R-Line follows Volkswagen’s familiar R-Line design language with squared proportions and sharp surfacing. However, it receives revised Matrix LED headlamps, updated tail-lamp signatures and illuminated Volkswagen badges at the front and rear.
The SUV rides on 19-inch alloy wheels similar to the Tiguan R-Line and features gloss-black wheel-arch cladding along with R-Line badging. Built on the MQB EVO platform, the Tayron gets a wheelbase that is longer than the Tiguan’s, helping accommodate the third row.

Interior and features
Inside, the Tayron R-Line largely mirrors the Tiguan R-Line’s cabin layout with minor trim differences such as a silver dashboard accent. The SUV comes equipped with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, along with leatherette seat upholstery.
Comfort and convenience features include three-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, powered front seats with ventilation, memory and massage functions, ambient lighting and a premium Harman Kardon audio system. A powered tailgate is also part of the package.
Safety equipment
On the safety front, the Tayron R-Line offers nine airbags, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring and Level-2 driver assistance features. Hill-start and hill-hold functions are also included.
With its combination of three-row practicality, familiar Volkswagen mechanicals and premium feature set, the Tayron R-Line aims to strengthen the brand’s presence in the upper midsize SUV segment in India.
