Yamaha SZ RR V2 Discontinued In India

Yamaha SZ RR V 2.0 Blue

The Yamaha SZ RR V2 does not get ABS and won’t be updated to meet BS6 norms.

Rivals the Bajaj Pulsar 150 and the Honda CB Unicorn 150

The stringent compliance of BS6 norms in India has led to the discontinuation of yet another passenger vehicle. This time, it’s a 150cc commuter bike by Yamaha called the SZ RR V2. While the production has halted, leftover stock of the motorcycle is available at some dealerships.

Apart from BS6 requirements, all bikes above 125cc need to be equipped with ABS as standard whereas the SZ RR V2 was not provided with the same. Another reason for the Yamaha SZ RR V2 to bite the dust is the severe competition it received from its rivals, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 (Rs. 67,072/-) and the Honda CB Unicorn 150 (Rs. 72,057/-). This decision is backed up by numbers as well. In May 2019, Bajaj sold 64,805 units of the Pulsar 150 whereas Yamaha’s SZ couldn’t get even a single buyer. The motorcycle was priced well and has an ex-showroom price of Rs. 69,983/- (all prices, ex-showroom).

The Yamaha SZ RR V2 is powered by a 149cc, air-cooled engine that produces 12 PS and 12.8 Nm of peak torque, coupled with a 5-speed gearbox. The powertrain is what comes with the FZ V3, but the naked street does duty with slightly better tuning.

Suspension duties are on telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the back. A disc brake at the front and drum brake at the back are offered as standard fitment. The Yamaha SZ RR V2 is the company’s 3rd bike to be discontinued due to poor market performance after the R15S and the Fazer 155.
