Yamaha To Launch Ray Scooter In October

Yamaha will be launching their first scooter in India. The Japanese automaker will be launching the Ray Scooter in October 2012. Yamaha had showcased the Ray scooter as a prototype at the 2012 Auto Expo. Yamaha however did not reveal any details on the engine capacity of the scooter but we are expecting it to be powered by a 125cc engine, producing around 10 HP of power. It will be targeted towards woman riders and is expected to be priced around Rs. 50,000/-. The Yamaha Ray prototype scooter shown at the Auto Expo looked very good and the styling is extremely pleasing.

The Yamaha Ray will compete against the Suzuki Access and Piaggio Vespa, two scooters which are extremely well engineered in the 125cc space. Yamaha is also expanding its production capacity to manufacture these scooters at its Surajpur facility in Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, the company is also searching for land in the South to setup another plant which would help them expand their yearly production volume significantly.

A scooter from Yamaha has been expected for quite some time now. Yamaha only plans to launch the Ray scooter and won’t launch any other product in 2012. We can expect a 250cc bike from Yamaha in 2013, which would be completely manufactured in India and exported as well. Rumours point towards the Fazer 250 but Yamaha is yet to confirm any development in this regard.
