Yamaha Updates SZ In Brazil, Calls It YS150 Fazer

Brazil’s most popular two-wheeler segment of motorcycles is the 150cc category and every manufacturer wants to get a piece of the ever growing segment. Yamaha Brazil too has entered the volume based segment with the YS150 Fazer Blue Flex. The 150cc motorcycle is essentially the SZ-RR 150 sold in India, but gets certain exterior upgrades compared to the Indian model.

The Yamaha YS150 Fazer features an aerodynamic design with small fenders to give a sporty appeal to the motorcycle. The bike gets blacked out 5-spoke alloy wheels, exhaust muffler and grab rail. The bike features a digital instrument console with an analogue rev counter. The YS150 Fazer provides decent performance with its 149cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine and can run on petrol, ethanol or a mix of the two.

Brazil like India is an emerging country with a booming middle class and rising income groups and too offers an appetite for volume products to manufacturers. The 150cc segment makes for among the largest share of motorcycles with over 1.65 million units sold in 2012. The YS150 Fazer will be offered in two variants and is priced at 7390 Brazilian reals (Rs. 1.90 lakhs) for the standard model, whereas the premium model priced at 7850 Brazilian reals (Rs. 2.02 lakhs) gets special colour schemes and a centre stand.

Yamaha Brazil plans to achieve a target of 74,000 units of the YS150 Fazer in the first year of sales and the YS150 Fazer Blue Flex will help contribute to 18 percent of the company’s sales up to 1.90 lakh units by the end of this year. Yamaha will be competing against the Honda CG150 Titan which is also the current segment leader and constitutes over 80 percent of the motorcycle market in Brazil. The company will launch the YS150 Fazer by late September in Brazil.
