We earlier had a look at the top 10 highest selling cars in India in the last fiscal. Now let us analyse the 10 least selling cars. A quick glance at the list shows that Renault is the Maruti when it comes to least selling cars. While Maruti’s cars occupy a lot of spots on the top 10 list, it is Renault who has a big share in the low sellers’ list.

Renault managed to sell only 113 units of the Fluence

Renault Fluence

The Renault Fluence competes in the D-segment and rivals the Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Jetta. The Fluence fetched only 113 sales across the year which translates into average monthly sales of less than 10 units.

Verito Vibe failed to create an appeal and sold only 609 units

Mahindra Verito Vibe

The Verito Vibe was Mahindra’s attempt at producing a hatchback with large dimensions and a big boot and the Vibe was a chopped down version of the Verito, which in turn was a Renault Logan. The Verito Vibe failed to give good vibes to buyers and remained a dud. The vehicle sold 609 units in the last fiscal.

The Scala is a poor performer in the C-segment with sales of 830 cars

The Renault Scala is nothing but a rebadged version of the Nissan Sunny. The Scala competes in the C-segment and rivals the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, etc. The Scala is a low seller just like its Japanese cousin and it managed sales of 830 units.

The D-segment is seeing poor demand, thus the Cruze bagged only 935 sales

Chevrolet Cruze

The Cruze has been in the market for long and Chevrolet has given it timely minor updates. The D-segment sedan now feels quite outdated and the next generation is due soon. In the last fiscal, Chevrolet sold 935 units of the Cruze. The vehicle competes with the Renault Fluence, Volkswagen Jetta and Toyota Corolla Altis.

Fiat could manage only 1447 sales of the Linea

Fiat Linea

Fiat is on a downward spiral in India and this is showing in the sales of its vehicles. The Linea competes in the strong C-segment and due to the competition that offers far better and modern cars, the Linea remains a low-seller with sales of just 1447 units in the fiscal.

The Maruti Swift competitor isn’t setting the charts on fire with sales of 1507 units

Chevrolet Sail U-VA

Chevrolet wanted to enter the premium hatchback segment and they launched the Sail U-VA hoping to give some sleepless nights to the Maruti Swift. However, people generally don’t have a perception about Chevrolet as good as Maruti, thus making the Sail U-VA a sales disaster. It sold 1507 units in the last fiscal.

The poor growth in D-segment has affected the Elantra too which got only 1708 sales

The Elantra is Hyundai’s offering the D-segment and even though it is a good package overall, it doesn’t sell much because the entire D-segment is witnessing a rapid decline in sales, largely due to the increasing prices of the products. Hyundai sold 1708 units of the Elantra.

Renault comes in the list again with the Pulse fetching 1712 numbers

The Pulse is a hatchback version of the Scala and a rebadged Nissan Micra. While the Micra itself isn’t selling much, the Pulse is priced even more and hence it is obvious that it hardly gets any demand. Renault managed to find 1712 buyers for the Pulse in the last fiscal.

Crossovers are high in demand, but not all, says the Avventura with 1906 sales

Fiat Avventura

The Avventura is a crossover based on the Punto Evo and while it is a good car, it fails to see any positive response from customers who prefer ‘safer’ options available in the same price bracket. The Fiat Avventura bagged 1906 units in the fiscal.

Another D-segment victim is the Jetta with sales of 1940 units

Volkswagen Jetta

– Almost the entire D-segment is in this list now. The Volkswagen Jetta got an update last year and it sold 1940 units in the FY 2016 fiscal. However, buyers prefer to pick an entry-level from one of the big Germans which costs them only marginally more.
