Maruti Ciaz Review

The Maruti Ciaz is the successor of the SX4 sedan. After the Baleno sedan, Maruti launched the SX4, which was somewhat bagging the sales figures. To maintain its position in the C-segment sedan market, Maruti launched the Ciaz in 2014. In 2018 the Ciaz was updated with bolder looks and the addition of some features.

Pros – Spacious Cabin, Good Ride Quality, Value For Money

Cons – No Diesel Engine, Some Features Missing, 4-Speed Automatic Transmission

Maruti Ciaz Exteriors

The design of the Ciaz looks very simple and sober. There are not many sporty elements around the car. The design is made in such a way that it appeals to most of the customers out there. On the front, the grille which had horizontal slats earlier has been replaced by the multi-segmented dashes. The grille looks nice and surrounded by the chrome on the top and the bottom. The headlights come with the LED projector set up, and you also get a LED DRLs. From the side, the Ciaz has not been changed more apart from the new 16-inch precision cut alloy wheels. The rear also remains the same, apart from the addition of LED tail lamps. The updated design of the Ciaz has a more premium character to it.

Apart from the regular variants the Ciaz also comes in the Sport variant which has sportier elements on the outside like blacked out OVRMs, rear and side underbody spoiler. It also comes with a black spoiler at the rear, which adds some amount of sportiness to the overall character of the car.

Maruti Ciaz Interiors

The interiors of the Maruti Ciaz are clean and very well integrated. The combination of the black and the beige treatment gives an airy feeling in the cabin. There are much of hard plastics felt in the cabin along with the fake wooden inserts on the dash and chrome garnishes around the AC vents, steering wheel and door handles. The sports version of the Ciaz gets an all-black interior. The Ciaz comes equipped with Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment system. It supports Navigation, Voice Commands, Bluetooth, USB & AUX connectivity, steering mounted controls and MirrorLink for smartphone connectivity. Other features include automatic climate control, pollen filter, electrically adjustable, and foldable ORVMs, reverse parking camera, reverse parking sensors, auto-dimming IRVM, cruise control, and much more.

Maruti Ciaz Space

The front seats of the Ciaz are comfortable and wide enough to fit any size of a person. The rear bench is comfortable with loads of headroom, shoulder room, and headroom. Fitting of the three full-size adults wouldn’t be an issue for the Ciaz. You don’t get a fixed or an adjustable headrest for the centre passenger. Also, because of the Smart Hybrid technology, there is a lithium-ion battery placed underneath the front passenger seat but it is not affecting the legroom much.

Maruti Ciaz Engine Performance

The Maruti Ciaz comes with a 1.4 litre K15 Smart Hybrid petrol engine. The engine churns out a power of 103 HP @ 6000 RPM, and a torque output of 138 Nm @ 4400 RPM. The engine comes mated with the 5-speed manual transmission or an old school 4-speed automatic transmission. The engine feels refined, and the power is delivered linearly. The engine doesn’t have its charm in the higher RPMs. You might have to work with the gears to extract the power from the engine. The manual transmission feels light to use, and the clutch is also on the lighter side. The 4-speed automatic feels a bit slow to react, and it is not the most modern AT out there. The automatic is only for driving convenience. In automatic does not have any manual mode for shifting gears nor do you get any S mode. However, you get a 2L mode which can help on ghats.

Maruti Ciaz Mileage

The BS6 Maruti Ciaz has an ARAI fuel efficiency of 20.65 km/l for the manual transmission, and 20.04 km/l for the automatic transmission. In the real-world conditions, it will return around 13-15 km/l in city traffic conditions and 15-19 km/l out on the highways for the manual transmission. The automatic will return around 12-14 km/l in city traffic conditions and 14-18 km/l out on the highways. However, fuel efficiency also depends upon the style of driving and traffic conditions.

Maruti Ciaz Handling

The steering of the Maruti Ciaz feels light, which makes it easy to drive in the city traffic conditions and to park the car in tight parking spots. On the twisty section of the road, one would expect more feedback from the steering in which the Ciaz lacks.

Maruti Ciaz Comfort

The Ciaz is a very comfortable car to be in. It doesn’t disappoint you with its ride quality. The ride feels stable and planted at high speeds. The suspension takes all the bad patches of the road with ease, and the Ciaz gives a plush experience ride quality to its passengers.

Maruti Ciaz Safety

In term of safety equipment, the Ciaz gets dual airbags, ABS, reverse parking camera, anti-theft security system, seat belt reminder, and high-speed alert warning. Electronic stability control and hill hold features are only available with the automatic transmission.

Maruti Ciaz Service
