2015 Maruti Ciaz RS Launched In India, Priced From Rs. 9.20 Lakhs

The Maruti Ciaz RS comes with cosmetic enhancements including side skirts, rear spoiler and bumper lip with no changes to the power output.

The RS trim adds some sportiness to the otherwise premium Ciaz

Spotted almost a year back, Maruti Suzuki has chosen to launch the sporty Ciaz RS in the country amidst the festive season with prices starting at Rs. 9.20 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Expanding the C-segment sedan’s lineup, the Maruti Ciaz RS is the sportier looking derivative of the four-door saloon and gets a host of cosmetic upgrades over the standard model. The RS edition though is only available on the top-of-the-line Z+ trims with both petrol and diesel engine options.

In terms of upgrades, the Maruti Ciaz RS gets a sporty body kit inclusive of a front bumper lips, side skirts and a boot-lid mounted spoiler, all of which enhance the aerodynamics of the car, the company says. Inside the cabin, the Maruti Ciaz RS comes with new sporty black interiors instead of the beige ones with a brushed silver finished instrument panel. The dashboard layout and feature list remains the same with dual airbags and ABS being offered as standard.

Contrary to expectations of a 1.6-litre diesel engine (from the S-Cross) powering the Ciaz RS, Maruti Suzuki has opted to continue with the ongoing lineup of engines. A 1.4-litre petrol unit churns out 95 PS while a 1.3-litre diesel with the SHVS hybrid technology produces 90 PS on the Ciaz and comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission on both engines. A 4-speed AT unit is also available, paired to the petrol unit. The Ciaz RS continues to be one of the most fuel efficient vehicles in the segment with the diesel returning 28.03 km/l (ARAI certified).

Maruti Suzuki is offering the new Ciaz RS in seven colour options and the car also comes with the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system that made its debut on the model last year. Launched in October 2014, the Ciaz has grown quite popular in the year with over 56,000 units sold and improving the value proposition, Maruti introduced the SHVS hybrid tech on the sedan some time back to further better fuel saving and lower emissions. With the RS variant, the automaker is now aiming to the attract a younger audience base to the sedan.
