2016 Ducati Scrambler 400 Spied Ahead Of EICMA Unveil

The Ducati Scrambler 400 uses a twin-cylinder engine under its belly while retaining the retro cool styling cues from the bigger Scrambler 800.

The Scrambler 400 gets traditional front forks instead of the USDs

All set for an official unveil at the 2015 EICMA Show later this month, these are the first spy shots that give a glimpse of the upcoming Ducati Scrambler 400, the most affordable model to come from the manufacturer. Teased with an interesting image, the Scrambler 400 as the name suggests is the smaller displacement version of Ducati’s current entry-level offering and is essentially targeted to tap into the A2 segment prevailing in the European market in addition to Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

The new spy shots reveal a host of details on the new Ducati Scrambler 400 also debunking several rumours. For starters, the Scrambler 400 looks similar to its 800cc sibling with minimal changes to differentiate between the two. The mechanicals however, are the biggest give away. Keeping costs in check, Ducati has changed the front USD forks to traditional telescopic units while the rear swingarm appears thinner though the design is similar. The spied mule does not get the brushed silver finish on the fuel tank, which could make it on the final bike.

Other changes on the Ducati Scrambler 400 include round rearview mirrors, whereas the exhaust is a temporary one and is different on both test bikes. It will be interesting to see if Ducati opts for a larger side mounted exhaust muffler or introduces a low profile unit like the bigger Scrambler. In terms of power, the 400cc L-twin cylinder engine (could be a downsized Monster unit) will be an air-cooled unit with power restricted to under 47 HP to comply with A2 norms.

Officially, little is known about the Ducati Scrambler 400 at this point and more details will only be available at the EICMA Motor Show that is set to commence on 19th November 2015. In addition to the baby Scrambler that has high chances of making it to India, Ducati will also be introducing eight new models across the complete Ducati range at the annual show. Expect Ducati to price the Scrambler 400 at around Rs. 6 lakhs in India, making the entry-level model out of reach of most.

The official reveal is scheduled at the EICMA Motor Show later this month
