2018 Suzuki Jimny Officially Revealed, India Launch Unclear

2018 Suzuki Jimny officially revealed in pictures well ahead of the debut on 5th July.

The Suzuki Jimny will first go on sale in Japan where production has already commenced

The 2018 Suzuki Jimny has been officially revealed in pictures well ahead of the debut next month. Now in its fourth generation, the Suzuki Jimny has some possibility of getting launched in India but the automaker hasn’t confirmed anything yet. If it is launched here, it will be an excellent replacement for the Gypsy and buyers are likely to lap it up in good numbers.

In terms of design, the Suzuki Jimny retains the boxy design silhouette but comes with new styling elements. The Jimny gets an iconic 5-slat grille finished in matte black and classic round headlights. The black heavy duty front bumper comes with a wide air intake and fog lights. Wheel sizes range from 15 to 16-inches while the company is likely to offer dual tone treatment on the top-end variants.

The interior too follows the retro design approach but gets all sorts of modern features. There is a multi-function steering wheel, rotary dials for the AC vents and toggle switches for several other functions. The centre console might remind you of the Ignis and the Swift to some extent. The fourth generation Suzuki Jimny is based on a ladder frame chassis and in terms of dimensions, it is slightly larger than its predecessor. It now measures 3300 mm in length, 1475 mm in width and 1715 mm in height.

The engine options aren’t yet confirmed but it is highly likely that the JDM-spec Suzuki Jimny will be offered with a 660cc petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Part time 4WD will be offered too. Meanwhile, the Jimny Sierra gets a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol motor with transmission choices including a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox with 4WD being standard. No diesel engine is expected as the carmaker recently confirmed it has pulled all diesel options from its current line-up.
