Production issues as a result of supply constraints could be the reason behind deferment of 2022 Maruti Celerio launch

The launch of the 2022 Maruti Celerio is said to have been postponed and the second-generation model of the hatchback is likely to be introduced by the end of this year.

Earlier this week, Maruti said it might see a reduction in production by about 60 percent at its plant in Haryana and at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) facility, owing to a supply constraint of electronic components.

It is likely that the shortage of semiconductor has affected the production of the new generation Celerio, which in turn has likely led to the deferment of the 2022 Maruti Celerio launch.

Spotted undisguised already, the hatchback bears new styling that, simply put, makes it look like a baby of the Maruti Swift and Baleno.

Until it gets replaced, the current model will soldier on

While front profile looks a bit more aggressive now, the rear is more rounded. The new Celerio will be offered with alloy wheels, ORVMs with integrated indicators.

Inside, Maruti has opted to keep the cabin colour black. The air vents to the sides will be circular and there will also be metallic accents in the interior of the 2022 Celerio.

In terms of features, higher variants of the hatchback will come with an infotainment touchscreen, smartphone connectivity including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, among other features.

Maruti is expected to offer more safety features with the car, which should have the same powertrain options as the Wagon R, this time around.
