Maruti launched the Celerio in the year 2014. The diesel version of the Celerio was launched in the year 2015. Later the diesel was discontinued. The Celerio is currently available with the petrol and CNG fuel options. The premium version of the Celerio known as the CelerioX is also available. Let’s take a deeper look into both models of the Celerio and find out if it is worth it.

Maruti Celerio Exteriors

The Celerio looks like plain vanilla from the outside. Upfront the Celerio gets a spilt grille design with a thin strip of the chrome on the top of the grille. The headlights get the halogen bulb setup as standard. From the side, you get a strong shoulder line below the door handles. You get an option of 14-inch alloy wheel on the top trim while the other trims are offered with the steel wheel. The rear of the car has a resemblance to the Maruti Alto.

The CelerioX gets blacked out styling elements on the front bumper. The matte black cladding on the side and the blacked-out wheels add some sporty character to the car. The OVRMs and the door handles are also finished in black. The rear also gets blacked-out bumper with a skid plate finished in silver.

Maruti Celerio Interiors

The Celerio gets black and beige treatment inside, which gives an airy feel to the cabin. You do find hard and shiny plastics on the dashboard but the overall fit-finish is good. You don’t get touchscreen infotainment in the Celerio. The normal audio system comes with Bluetooth, USB, AUX & CD. You do get steering-mounted controls. The instrument cluster houses a tachometer on the left side, speedometer in the center and a MID on the right side. You don’t get an automatic climate control in the Celerio but you do get a manual AC. Additionally, you also get electrically foldable OVRMs and reverse parking sensors.

The CelerioX gets a blacked out theme inside. The seat covers get orange treatment to them. Rest all remains the same as the regular Celerio.

Maruti Celerio Space

The front seats of the Celerio are comfortable, but they tend to vibrate at low speeds. Rear legroom and headroom are decent, but the under-thigh support could have been better. You don’t get any adjustable headrests in the Celerio, which could be an issue for taller passengers.

The CelerioX is marginally bigger than the regular Celerio because of its body-cladding but apart from that both the cars are similar in size and the wheelbase is also the same.

Maruti Celerio Engine Performance

The Maruti Celerio and the CelerioX come with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, K10B petrol engine. The engine produces a power output of 67 HP @ 6000 RPM and torque output of 90 Nm @ 3500 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT (which Maruti likes to call AGS). Performance from this 1.0-litre engine is good. Power delivery is smooth and you don’t have to work the gearbox to get the best out of it. The 5-speed manual transmission is nice to use and you don’t have to put much effort in shifting the gears. The clutch also feels light, and it is easy to operate. The 5-speed AMT does its job well. It feels smooth, and the time in changing the gears is also much shorter. The AMT gearbox responds to the throttle well, but for quick overtakes you can find some delay to shift down. However, you can take manual control to make the gearshifts quicker.

You also get an option of CNG with the petrol engine. The engine produces a power output of 59 HP @ 6000 RPM and torque output of 78 Nm @ 3500 RPM in CNG mode. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Maruti Celerio Mileage

The BS6 Maruti Celerio & the CelerioX with petrol engine has an ARAI fuel efficiency of 21.63 km/l for both manual transmission and automatic transmission. In the real-world conditions, it will return around 15-17 km/l in city traffic conditions and 17-20 km/l out on the highways. However, fuel efficiency also depends upon the style of driving and traffic conditions.

The BS6 Maruti Celerio with CNG + petrol engine has an ARAI fuel efficiency of 30.47 km/kg (CNG Mode) for the manual transmission.

Maruti Celerio Handling

With its light steering, the Celerio is easy to drive in the city. However, out on the highways, it doesn’t give you that confidence while cornering hard and high speed stability could also be better.

Maruti Celerio Comfort

The ride quality of the Celerio is quite impressive at low speeds. The suspension absorbs all the potholes and bumps easily. There is some amount of firmness present which is more pronounced at high speeds. At high speeds, there is some amount of movement felt.

In terms of the safety equipment, the Celerio & CelerioX is equipped with a driver airbag, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder, high-speed alert, and immobiliser as standard in all the trims. In the higher trims, you also get the passenger-side airbag, and seat belt pre-tensioner & force limiters. The Maruti Celerio scored zero stars in the Global NCAP crash tests.

The Maruti Wagon R is offered with a 1.0-litre petrol engine and a more powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine. In terms of dimensions, the Celerio is longer by 40 mm. On the other side, the Wagon R is wider by 20 mm and taller by 115 mm.

The Hyundai Santro is offered with a 1.1-litre petrol engine. The power output figures of both cars are the same.
