2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Production starts ahead of its launch on 10th May, 37,000 cars sold so far

With just days remaining for its launch slated for 10th May, 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class production has finally begun at its Pune plant.

Bookings have already commenced for existing Mercedes-Benz customers while, for others, it will begin from 1 May onwards for a token amount of Rs. 50,000/-

The luxury sedan, which has so far seen 37,000 homes in the country since its lauch in 2001, is currently in its fifth generation. It will be offered in 3 variants – C200, C220d, and C300d.

The luxury sedan sports 19-inch wheels

It’s expected to be powered by a 197 HP 2-litre turbo petrol and a 2-litre diesel mill in 2 states of tune 194 HP and 245 HP. A 9-speed automatic gearbox will be the sole transmission on offer.

The luxury sedan is also likely to sport mild-hybrid technology as standard this time. The integrated starter-generator (ISG) might also make its way.

The large touchscreen is the prominent part of the interior

Designed taking inspiration from the S-Class, the new C-Class is 65 mm longer than its previous version with the wheel base also higher by 25 mm.

It sports a revised grille, shorter overhangs, sleeker LED headlamps with integrated LED drls, and new split LED tail-lamps. There are also what Mercedes calls ‘power bulges’ on the hood. It runs on 19-inch alloy wheels and the blackened B-pillars complete the look on the side.

There are almost no physical buttons on the car

On the inside, along with more space, there is new age technology throughout including the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the 11.9-inch infotainment touchscreen taken straight from the S-Class that controls most of the car’s functions.

The infotainment functions can now also be operated by touch-sensitive pads on the steering wheel.

The car is now 65 mm longer

The touchscreen infotainment system also features ‘Hey Mercedes’ connected car technology while other features include sunroof, wireless charging, heated steering wheel, and Nappa leather upholstery.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is expected to be launched at a starting price of Rs. 50.01 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will rival the competitors – Volvo S60, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Jaguar XE.
