Maruti Suzuki Might Bid Adieu To The Long Standing F8D Engine

The spied upcoming Alto K10

All the variants of the upcoming 2023 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 get the latest K10C engine, F8D not seen

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the third generation 2023 Alto on 18th August and, ahead of the launch, the variants of the A-segment hatchback have been leaked online through a type-approval certificate.

Interestingly, all the variants of the car get the latest K10C engine and the old workhorse F8D mill is not to be seen. Also, the car has been christened as ‘Alto K10’ and not just Alto.

So, the question arises whether the company is planning to sell the second generation Alto 800 along with the third generation Alto K10.

As Central government is gearing up to implement the mandatory 6-airbag rule from this October, Maruti Suzuki either needs to equip the Alto 800 with 6 airbags or discontinue it.

Earlier, the thinking was that the company would plonk both the engines – F8D and K10 on the upcoming model which looks capable of getting 6 airbags as per government mandate.

But, now, it looks almost certain that the company is planning to pull the plug on the Alto 800 along with its 800 cc mill.

The leaked type-approval certificate

Now, coming to the revealed variants of the upcoming Alto K10, there are a total of 12 variants on offer – STD, STD (O), LXI, LXI (O), VXI, VXI (O), VXI+, VXI+ (O), VXI AGS, VXI (O) AGS, VXI+ AGS, VXI+ (O) AGS.

The new K10C 998 cc engine churns out 65.7 HP. The length, width, and height are 3530 mm, 1490 mm, and 1520 mm respectively.

The wheel base is 2380 mm and the gross weight is a super-low 1150 kg. The kerb weight should be even more less making the car a hoot to drive. The Alto K10 is always known for its peppy nature.
