50% Bookings For Pulsar RS 200 Are For ABS Variant

Pulsar RS 200 Brakes

The Pulsar RS 200 comes with a single-channel ABS unit equipped on the front wheel that is Rs. 12,000/- (ex-showroom) more expensive than the non-ABS variant.

ABS is an important safety feature that needs to be equipped on more bikes

Launched in March this year, the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 has been the recipient of positive reviews from masses and critics alike, appreciated for the host of improvements over the 200 NS. Hosting several Pulsar firsts, the flagship RS 200 is available in ABS and non-ABS variants with a price difference of Rs. 12,000/- between the two models. While it was expected that the non-ABS version (given the pricing advantage) will be enjoying more sales, a recent statement from the company says otherwise. With over 3500 bookings registered for the most expensive Pulsar last month since launch, Bajaj stated that 50 percent of the bookings are for the ABS equipped version.

This is certainly commendable considering ABS is such an important safety feature. The 2015 Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 gets a single-channel ABS unit that is equipped on the front wheel. Featuring the largest-in-the-segment 300 mm front disc brake (230 mm disc at the rear), the ABS unit has improved the stopping performance on the RS 200. While we did feel that a dual-channel ABS unit would’ve made a more effective difference on the bike, the single-channel unit nonetheless does the job reasonably well and will be highly appreciated by new riders. It is extremely interesting to see more riders opting for the ABS unit, choosing safety over just thrills.

Doing a quick round up on specifications, the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 draws power from a 199.5cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine that churns out 24.5 PS at 9750 RPM and 18.6 Nm of torque at 8000 RPM, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. With a kerb weight of 165 kgs, the bike is capable of doing the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 10.12 seconds and is a frugal unit returning a mileage between 34-41 km/l. Priced at Rs. 1.45 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai) for the ABS version, the Pulsar RS 200 is one of the most affordable performance bike you can purchase in the country (after the TVS Apache RTR 180) with ABS, being an extremely value for money and practical offering.

The RS 200 is the only bike in its segment and price range to get ABS as optional
