Dual Airbags Now Standard Across All Variants of Alto & S-Presso

The Alto’s base variant is now dearer by a lakh

Alto and S-Presso variants with less than 2 airbags discontinued, Alto base variant Price up by Rs. 1 lakh

In a move that will silence the general notion that A-segment cars lack safety features, Maruti Suzuki has updated the price list of its Alto and S-Presso in such a way dual airbags are standard across all variants of the 2 cars. Those variants which had anything less than 2 airbags have been discontinued in the process.

The variants that got discontinued include Alto STD, STD (O), LXI, S-Presso STD, and LXI. Earlier, customers had to pay an additional Rs. 7000/- for the second airbag in these variants.

The move has increased the starting price of Alto by almost a lakh Rupees while S-Presso too has witnessed a jump in price of Rs. 14,000/- for the base variant.

S-Presso’s base variant is now Rs.14,000/- expensive

This aside, the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways is also mulling to introduce a new rule that makes 6 airbags standard in all cars and the rule could passed as early as October this year. Though such a move is welcome, it must be seen how manufacturers might price their entry-level cars let alone fixing 6 airbags onto their bodyshells.
