Bajaj Dominar New Variant Launch By July 2018

Bajaj Dominar 400 Headlight

New Bajaj Dominar variant India launch by July 2018, likely to be a scrambler.

The 2018 Dominar 400 promised to be more refined and came with gold-painted alloy wheels as standard

After updating almost the entire portfolio of its bikes, Bajaj is now reportedly working on two new variants of the Dominar 400. Recently, the automaker introduced new colour palettes for the 2018 Dominar. The company had set an ambitious target of retailing 10,000 units (monthly) of the Dominar when it was initially launched in 2016. While that target is still far from reality (considering the Dominar currently sells only around 2000-2500 units a month), a new variant of the power cruiser could help the Dominar brand to pick up pace in terms of monthly volumes, if not meet the target immediately.

The company has planned for a Classic variant and a Scrambler variant and is currently evaluating which of the two would befit the Indian market. The scrambler variant makes more sense as the platform can pull it off rather well.

If Bajaj decides on the scrambler body type, then knobby tyres, new mudguard and higher ground clearance are some of the things to expect. Mechanicals are likely to remain the same and what that means is the new variant will come powered by the same 373.3cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled and fuel-injected engine that produces 35 PS of power and 35 Nm of torque. However, the company is likely to alter the sprockets and gearing to match the scrambler characteristics.

According to sources, the new variant is likely to be priced at a premium of around Rs. 4000-6000/- over the standard Dominar 400. Currently, the Dominar retails at Rs. 1,44,113/- and Rs. 1,58,275/- for the non-ABS and ABS models respectively (both prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
