Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS Unveiled, Produces 15.5 PS & 14.6 Nm

The Bajaj Pulsar 160 NS has been showcased in Turkey and it is Euro IV compliant.

Instead of the 150 NS, Bajaj Auto brought in the 160 NS in Turkey

Bajaj Auto launched the Pulsar 150 AS earlier this year which is the adventure version of the Pulsar 150 NS. The company has been selling the Pulsar 150 NS in international markets since quite a few months now and here in India, we all have been waiting for it. The bike has been spied testing a lot of times on our roads but no official confirmation has emerged from Bajaj on its launch.

Now in a very surprising move, Bajaj Auto has unveiled the Pulsar 160 NS in Turkey. As emission norms switch from Euro III to Euro IV, Bajaj was expected to work on the 149.5cc, 4-valve engine to make it comply with the upcoming emission norms but instead, the company has worked on the motor to increase displacement to 160.3cc, employing oil-cooling.

While the Pulsar 150 AS/NS was the most powerful 150cc bike in the segment, producing 17 PS of power at 9500 RPM and a rather low 13 Nm of torque at 7000 RPM, the new 160cc motor belts out lesser power at 15.5 PS at 8500 RPM but an increase in torque to 14.6 Nm at 6500 RPM. The new motor is also mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Besides the change in the engine, the Pulsar 160 NS sees a weight reduction of 5 kgs, tipping the scales at 135 kgs. It gets a front disc and rear drum brake set-up while the optional front-channel ABS brings disc brakes to the rear. Running on 100/80/17 and 110/70/17 front and rear tyres respectively, the Pulsar 160 NS uses wider tyres than the Pulsar 150 NS which employs 80/100/17 and 110/80/17 rubber at the front and rear respectively.

Bajaj Auto is likely to launch the Pulsar 160 NS in India considering it will let the Pulsar 150 enjoy its long domination in the 150cc commuter segment while letting the company compete with the Honda CB Hornet 160R, Suzuki Gixxer and Yamaha FZ.
