One of the world’s most luxurious and expensive brands Bentley, has confirmed reports that their new Bentley Bentayga SUV will get a diesel engine with electric turbocharging.

The Bentley Bentayga will get a diesel engine borrowed from the Audi SQ7

Bentley revealed its first ever SUV, the Bentayga at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show a few months back. This is the first time the British brand has touched the SUV segment in its entire history. The launch models of the Bentayga will come with a 600 BHP, 6.0-litre, W12 petrol engine. Later, we can also see 7-seat editions and plug-in hybrid technology being added to the line-up.

Now the engineers at the company have confirmed that the Bentley Bentayga will also come with a diesel engine with electric turbocharging. The car will borrow the diesel engine from the upcoming Audi SQ7 which is a performance version of the Audi Q7 SUV. The Audi SQ7 itself is expected to launch sometime in the following year.

Bentley has not revealed any details regarding its diesel engine, hence none of the engine specifications can be confirmed, but we can assume that since the SQ7 will be using 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine with electric turbocharging, the Bentayga will have similar specifications as well. Also, the SQ7 engine is said to produce 428 BHP with 850 Nm of torque. The SUV might come with two engine options, one being the powerful W12 and the other being a smaller V8 engine.

The Bentayga will come with electric turbocharging, these use electric motors to spin up the turbos before the hot exhaust gases are funnelled into it. This helps to eliminate the lag entirely and drastically improves throttle response. Basically meaning that the turbos are always spooled up.

The presence of the diesel drivetrain under the bonnet of the four-wheel drive luxury SUV, shows the dominance of diesel engines in the SUV sector. The prices of the Bentley Bentayga has still not been revealed, but we can expect it to be priced just north of the most expensive Range Rover. The main competitors for the Bentayga will be the Porsche Cayenne diesel, Land Rover Range Rover and Maserati Levante.
